A new era of Tiger football has begun.
On Saturday, Antwann Hill Jr., a four-star quarterback out of Houston County, Texas, committed to play for Memphis. Hill officially becomes Memphis’ highest ranked recruit in the modern era.
Cause And Effect of Hill’s commitment
In April, FedEx announced a five year $25 million commitment to the Memphis Tigers NIL fund. Former athletic director Laird Veach said the deal “signals that Memphis is ready to compete at the highest level.”
Hill held offers from college football blue bloods like Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Notre Dame. Memphis football officially enters the era of being a thorn in the side of major programs.
Projecting Hill’s Role
With 2024 being Seth Henigan’s final year of eligibility, the Tiger’s have big shoes to fill. While Hill will undoubtedly be the most gifted quarterback on the roster, it would be unwise to give an 18 year old guaranteed control of the offense. Make him earn it. Along with the talent already on the roster like Arrington Maiden (for what it’s worth, I once called Maiden “The Future of Memphis Football“) or Cade Cunningham, I expect a veteran transfer quarterback to be added with a shot to win the job.
When it’s all said done, here’s how I expect things to shake out: Hill as the starter, a transfer veteran as the backup, Cunningham as the third string, and Maiden to transfer out.

In the age of Hudl, film is easier than ever to access. Here are my takeaway’s after a quick 20 minute study:
Pro Arm Talent & Touch: The first thing that flashed to me is Hill’s lightning quick, fluid release. He also showcases excellent velocity, constantly hitting tight window throws. He also has a very good touch on the ball constantly layering the ball between the second and third level of the defense. A true threat to push the ball down the field at any moment
Pro Frame: A bit wiry at 6’5, 215 but has the frame to grow into it. Has that rare “whip” of an arm like a lot of pro QBs have.
Fluid Mover: Hill isn’t a Lamar Jackson type of scrambler but he has really good pocket movement, can make guys miss in space, and get to the sticks when needed.
Production: Houston County (Hill’s high school) plays Georgia’s very competitive 6A division. A three year varsity starter, Hill’s best statistical season came in 2022 when he threw for 3,663 yards, 40 touchdowns, and only 3 interceptions
IQ: In high school, superstar QBs usually try to be superman because they feel pressure to be “the man.” Something that really impresses me with Hill is how he has really nice anticipation and can put the ball in the hands of his playmakers. He balances the line between doing too much and not enough just right.
