Memphis’ Seth Henigan: The Lone Four-Year Starter

That team being the University of Memphis, where Seth Henigan heads into leading the Tigers for his fourth consecutive season. With the new expanded College Football Playoff, Memphis Football has an opportunity they’ve never seen before.

The sense of unity throughout the program, from the staff down to the players, could ultimately catalyze the Tigers to become the second Group of 5 school to ever appear in the Playoffs.

Henigan’s Tenure Thus Far

When arriving on campus for his freshman year, Henigan wasn’t expecting to start right away.

Memphis would have Arizona transfer, Grant Gunnell coming in and projected to start. However, after Gunnell went down with an injury, Henigan would be handed the keys to the car. During his true freshman season, he immediately caught the attention of many as one of the best freshman quarterbacks in the country.

Despite receiving interest from other programs after his freshman campaign, Henigan remained with the Tigers. Since then, he has begun to cement himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks in Memphis history.

Entering his senior year, Seth Henigan has already etched his name in the record books at Memphis, holding the record for most passing yards in the program’s history. Over his first three seasons, he showcased his talent and leadership by guiding Memphis to three consecutive bowl victories, including a notable triumph in the Liberty Bowl against Iowa State most recently.

Senior Year

As the 2024 season approaches, Henigan sets his sights on a few more accomplishments. Still yet to win or play in the American Athletic Conference championship, he aims to secure a ring similar to his senior year in high school.

The difference this year is that winning the AAC could potentially land Memphis in the College Football Playoffs.

Whether staying put will foster great results remains to be seen. Nevertheless, this story is unprecedented in today’s college athletics landscape.
