“Memphis is making a major move with 4-star QB Antwann Hill” per On3 and Chad Simmons. Hill, once committed to Colorado is a blue chip, four star recruit out of Houston County Georgia. Here’s the rundown on Hill.
Scouting Report
Height: 6’5
Weight: 215
Class: 2025
Recruiting Profile (ESPN): #40 national, #8 state, #3 position
In the age of Hudl, film is easier than ever to access. Here are my takeaway’s after a quick 20 minute study:
Pro Arm Talent & Touch: The first thing that flashed to me is Hill’s lightning quick, fluid release. He also showcases excellent velocity, constantly hitting tight window throws. He also has a very good touch on the ball constantly layering the ball between the second and third level of the defense. A true threat to push the ball down the field at any moment
Pro Frame: A bit wiry at 6’5, 215 but has the frame to grow into it. Has that rare “whip” of an arm like a lot of pro QBs have.
Fluid Mover: Hill isn’t a Lamar Jackson type of scrambler but he has really good pocket movement, can make guys miss in space, and get to the sticks when needed.
Production: Houston County (Hill’s high school) plays Georgia’s very competitive 6A division. A three year varsity starter, Hill’s best statistical season came in 2022 when he threw for 3,663 yards, 40 touchdowns, and only 3 interceptions
IQ: In high school, superstar QBs usually try to be superman because they feel pressure to be “the man”. Something that really impresses me with Hill is how he has really nice anticipation and can put the ball in the hands of his playmakers. He balances the line between doing too much and not enough just right.
Projection
At this point in the process, it feels unlikely that Hill commits to Memphis but On3 tends to have a good feel on these things. If Hill does commit, he will be the highest ranked recruit in program history. Although Arrington Maiden is an excellent developmental prospect that Coach Silverfield picked up in the 2024 class, Hill is too undeniable of a player to not see the field very early in his college career. This pickup would begin to signify a new era of Tiger football as Ryan Silverfield attempts to build a powerhouse in the American Athletic Conference.
