Finally, Memphis got the monkey off their back! Their four-game losing streak ended with a comeback win at home against Wichita State. As the Tigers currently hover on the bubble, the question arises: Can they get hot this month and secure an automatic bid?

Historically, under Penny Hardaway, Memphis tends to play its best basketball around the middle of February. However, this season, the team faces a scenario where they don’t have any margin for error.

The February schedule offers multiple opportunities for Quad 1 and Quad 2 wins. If the Tigers can put together a good stretch of games, they have a chance to rebuild their resume and strengthen their position for a postseason bid.

Look Ahead

After next week’s mid-week Temple matchup, Memphis enters a crucial stretch against top AAC teams.

They kick off with a rematch at home against Tulane, a team that has troubled them in recent regular seasons.

The following week sees them on the road in Texas against SMU and North Texas, offering opportunities for quality wins. Memphis previously secured a Quad 2 win against SMU at home, despite a less-than-stellar performance.

The stretch concludes with home games against Charlotte and FAU, offering the Tigers opportunities to solidify their position. The FAU game holds added significance as Memphis aims for redemption following last year’s NCAA Tournament loss.

Turning it Around

Winning cures all, and the Tigers, despite their ongoing challenges, have the talent to secure victories in all their upcoming matchups.

The recent close win against Wichita State showcased their ability to get over the hump and grind out successes.

Memphis is teetering on the edge of NCAA Tournament contention, with a slim margin for error. However, Hardaway has guided the team to mid-season comebacks before, and it remains to be seen if he can lead them to success against the odds once again.
