A Possible Malcolm Dandridge Reunion

Published

on

Earlier this month, Malcolm Dandridge announced that he would be entering the transfer portal. Dandridge was the last remaining player from Memphis’ heralded 2019 recruiting class.

But with options at the center position thinning for the Tigers, new reports have indicated that Dandridge could return to Memphis for his final year of eligibility.

Memphis returns forward Chandler Lawson and is also bringing in Temple transfer Nick Jourdain. However, neither of them are traditional centers and are better equipped to play the 4.

The lack of options at center could push Memphis’ staff into bringing Dandridge back into the fold as insurance as they continue their journey to find their starting big man.

Dandridge’s Options

Since entering the transfer portal, many schools have reached out to the 6-foot-9 big man.

Power 5 programs such as Auburn, Oklahoma State and Kansas State are among those that have shown interest. Conference mates South Florida and Tulsa are also trying to pursue the 260-pound Memphian.

Considering what Dandridge has gone through at Memphis, it’s understandable as to why he would want a fresh start. And considering his talent, it isn’t surprising that these kinds of programs are interested in him.

If Dandridge doesn’t return to Memphis, he shouldn’t have any issues finding a new home.

A Possible Return

Even though the Memphis and Dandridge agreed to go in separate directions, there is a possibility that he returns.

Dandridge has played under Penny Hardaway for most of his career, and has lived in Memphis for his whole life. With a potential starting role with the Tigers, he could certainly become inclined to remove his name from the transfer portal, especially if Memphis continues to miss on its other targets.

A return for Dandridge is far from a guarantee, however. Bridges will need to be rebuilt. Bygones will have to be bygones.

But if Memphis truly needs the help, which it does, perhaps its “big dawg” will be there to answer the call one last time.
