Dayton Transfer Mike Sharavjamts Includes Memphis in His Final 5 Schools

on

Dayton transfer Mike Sharavjamts has withdrawn from the 2023 NBA Draft and listed Memphis as one of his final 5 schools.

The Tigers were listed alongside Indiana, San Francisco, Pittsburgh and Nebraska. A decision is expected next week, per ESPN’s Jonathan Givony.

Sharavjamts, also known as “Mongolian Mike,” is the first ever Mongolian division one athlete. The 6-foot-8 forward is also a former 4-star recruit in high school, ranked No. 115 in the class of 2022 per 247Sports. 247Sports currently ranks him as the No. 34 transfer in the portal.

How Sharavjamts Would Fit with Memphis

Sharavjamts played a largely reduced role for Dayton in 2023. In 32 games played, he averaged 5.6 points, 2.6 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game. Additionally, he played just 23 minutes per contest while shooting 38.8% from the field and 31.5% from three-point range.

When watching him, however, it’s fairly obvious that he’s more talented than that type of role. At 6-foot-8, Sharavjamts has a legitimate ability to handle the ball and distribute it at a high level, garnering a 21% assist rate last season for the Flyers. He’s also efficient in the catch-and-shoot department, as he put himself in the 73rd percentile of spot-up shooting in 2023.

Shravjamts was a projected 2nd round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft prior to his withdrawal. So, he obviously has some pro-level upside heading into his 2nd collegiate campaign. If he improves his game in 2024, he can potentially play his way into the 1st round of next year’s draft.

Memphis and the program’s NBA-like mindset would give him a good opportunity to do that. Additionally, the Tigers have been pursuing another scoring option on the wing. And Sharavjampts and Memphis seems like a good match, especially if he improves defensively and in terms of his ball-security. His biggest weakness last season was turnovers, garnering a 21% rate in that category.

Can Memphis Land Sharavjamts?

Shravjamts’ recruitment has been relatively quiet throughout the last few months as the Mongolian prospect as been focusing on his preparation for the draft. Because of this, it isn’t quite clear who leads for “Mongolian Mike.”

Regardless, Sharavjamts seems to be a decent fit for Memphis’ program and would be a good addition for the Tigers.
