On day one of the 2023 NBA G League Elite Camp, former Memphis G Kendric Davis showed the type of player that Memphis fans know he can be at the next level. Davis is seeking to be one of seven players invited to the 2023 NBA Draft Combine held at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL from May 15 through May 21.
How Did Kendric Davis Perform?
Kendric Davis showed excellent playmaking abilities. He used his quickness and elite acceleration to drive downhill. Because he excels at getting downhill, it creates opportunities for himself and his teammates. When he drives, he forces the defense to decide whether to help or let him drive to the basket.
Typically, when a defender helps off of a driver, the driver has the decision to stop and shoot over the defender, kick it out to the wing, or dump it off to a cutter or a big in the post. Usually, a help defender will try to draw a charge; however, Kendric Davis has an elite stopping ability that allows him to avoid the charge.
Additionally, Kendric Davis showed his elite shot-creation and shot-making during the scrimmage. He shot 34.6% from 3PT range last season and 37% from 3PT range in the 2020-2021 season and in the 2021-2022 season at SMU. In the scrimmage, he had a nasty step-back 3PT make.
When the scrimmage was finished, Davis finished with 8 points, 4 assists and 1 rebound. He shot 3-7 from the field and 1-1 from 3PT range. He’ll compete again tomorrow on day two of the 2023 NBA G League Elite Camp.
What Does This Mean for Davis?
Kendric Davis is competing for a spot at the 2023 NBA Draft Combine. However, there are only seven invites to the NBA Combine given to players at the 2023 NBA G League Elite Camp. Davis performed well on day one, but he must perform in a similar fashion on day two if he wants an invite.
