With the news of Jordan Brown’s departure from the program, Penny Hardaway and his staff got right to work. Nae’Qwan Tomlin announced today his commitment to the Tigers after yesterday’s visit. Tomlin is a graduate transfer and will be eligible to play immediately once he’s admitted into Memphis’ grad program.

Time at Kansas State

After starting his college career playing junior college, Tomlin joined the Wildcats last season and made an immediate impact. Tomlin started all 36 games last season, averaging 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds a game.

Offensively, Tomlin’s game is define by his physicality, allowing him to skillfully navigate the lane and secure crucial baskets. Notably, he also emerges as a key primary lob threat.

Tomlin is a versatile player capable of making impactful plays on both ends of the court. Defensively, his prowess is evident as he not only comes up with steals but also has the ability to alter shots at the rim.

Entering into his senior year, Tomlin was seen at one of the Big 12’s most intriguing prospects. However, following an arrest related to a Manhattan bar altercation, Tomlin faced a suspension from Kansas State.

Fit with Memphis

Tomlin proves to be a valuable addition to the team, regardless of the timing of his inclusion. The fact that Hardaway and his staff managed to recruit a player of Tomlin’s caliber mid-season is unprecedented.

With Brown no longer in the equation, Memphis finds itself with limited options in the front court. Tomlin’s arrival adds a much-needed dynamic to address this gap.

Tomlin’s addition significantly addresses several key challenges that Memphis has faced in the ongoing season. His presence promises to bolster the Tigers with essential rebounding skills and a valuable defensive presence. Moreover, he introduces an offensive dimension, offering the team an inside scoring option that has been lacking thus far.
