Double Bye Week

The college football regular season is traditionally played between Labor Day weekend and the last Saturday in November. Usually, the time allotted between these weekends is 13 weeks but due to Labor day falling early this year (September 2nd), the Tigers have been given 14 weeks to play a 12 game schedule. The first off week for the Tigers will be between Middle Tennessee State (9/28) and South Florida (10/11). Subsequently, the second bye week will be between Alabama Birmingham (11/16) and Tulane (11/28).

Thanksgiving Showdown

The American Athletic Conference knows how to make a compelling schedule. They take the two teams believed to be preseason title favorites and pit them against each other the final week of the season. In 2023, they did a good job of it pitting UTSA and Tulane against each other in a winner-moves-on scenario.

In 2024, the Tigers take on Tulane in New Orleans on a Thanksgiving Day matchup between preseason favorites. This game will not only be a deciding factor in the AAC, but could decide who makes the College Football Playoff. There has yet to be confirmation yet but one can safely assume that this game will be on primetime television.

Cupcake Home Schedule

Memphis opens up the season against FCS opponent North Alabama in what should be a one sided game. The following week, the Tigers face the Troy Trojans in what will be their toughest home game of the season. After that, a home slate of MTSU, North Texas, Charlotte, Rice, and UAB should create easy opportunities for the Tigers to take care of business at the Liberty Bowl.

The Tigers’ Spring game is April 20th at The Liberty Bowl.
