Last week, Memphis Baseball (26-25, 8-13 American) had a chance to pick up a few quality wins over a couple of notable opponents in Mississippi State and #14 East Carolina. Unfortunately, thunderstorms canceled the Tigers’ game against Mississippi State on Tuesday. However, the Tigers were able to travel to and play #14 East Carolina. In their series against the Pirates, Memphis’ offense struggled to get going early in the games. On top of that, the Tigers’ pitching, outside of P Dalton Fowler, struggled mightily against the Pirates.
Despite this, Memphis Baseball showed grit as they continued to claw their way back into the games no matter the score. This speaks volumes about the character of each player on that team, and it also shows that Memphis HC Kerrick Jackson has created an excellent culture in the Tigers’ clubhouse. Expect to see the type of culture that Jackson has instituted at Memphis in this weekend’s series against Tulane (14-37).
Senior Weekend Against Tulane
After the Tigers’ loss to the Pirates, HC Kerrick Jackson suggested that he’s going to reflect upon what the Tigers didn’t do well this weekend and “try and pick up some momentum against Tulane heading into the conference tournament.
Memphis has a total of seven seniors on the roster. This list includes C Cade Hennemann, RHP Carson Stinnett, LHP Dalton Fowler, OF Anthony Hansen, RHP Chase Kessinger, OF Brayland Skinner, and INF/OF Dexter Swims.
What to Expect Against Tulane
Tulane won the series against Memphis earlier in the season. Each game was extremely competitive, but don’t expect similar results this weekend. Outside of the series against #14 East Carolina, the Tigers have been playing some of their best baseball of the season. Additionally, the Tigers are playing for something meaningful this weekend: honoring their seniors. Expect Memphis Baseball to get back on track this weekend against a Tulane team that has lost 10 of their last 12 games.
