Memphis Basketball Releases AAC Opponents for 2023-24

Memphis basketball has unveiled its American Athletic Conference schedule pairings for the 2023-24 regular season.

The school released them on social media late this morning.

Memphis will play 18 conference games in total this year. It’ll face four opponents just once at home, and four others just once on the road. It’ll play its other five opponents twice, once at home and once on the road. The AAC will unveil TV times and dates in the near future.

Its four home-exclusive opponents are Charlotte, Rice, South Florida and UTSA. Its four opponents that will be away-only are East Carolina, North Texas, Temple and Tulsa. And its other five opponents that will be played both home and away are SMU, Tulane, Wichita State, UAB and Florida Atlantic.

Notable Tidbits for Memphis

This will be the first AAC slate the Tigers will go through without the presence of UCF, Cincinnati and Houston. All three schools officially moved to the Big 12 on July 1. Memphis will, however, face all six of its new AAC foes in 2024.

It’s somewhat odd to see Memphis take on eight of its conference adversaries just one time. But with the conference growing in size by three members this year, the Tigers won’t take on as many opponents twice in a year as fans are accustomed to.

The good news is that Memphis will get a crack at every other AAC school at least once this year. It’ll also still get its most anticipated conference matchups twice, namely UAB and Florida Atlantic.

The Tigers and Blazers haven’t been conference foes since the former joined the American back in 2013. But the fierce rivalry the two schools once had hasn’t been forgotten by either. The “Battle for the Bones” could make a sizzling return in 2023-24.

The two games against Florida Atlantic, however, will be the crown jewel of Memphis’ season. They’ll also be the money-matchups for the entire AAC.

The Owls return all five starters from a team that beat Memphis in the NCAA Tournament and went to the Final 4 last season. The Tigers, however, have since loaded up in the transfer portal and look primed to win the school’s first AAC regular season title.

Memphis and FAU’s inevitable collision course will determine the fate of AAC basketball in 2023-24.
