Last week, I wrote about how the Memphis Deputy Athletic Director, Jeff Crane, announced that the football program sold over 11,000 season tickets. Upon analysis, I concluded that while the sales weren’t remarkable, they weren’t a cause for concern. Subsequently, Memphis has introduced a fresh ticket deal inspired by successful approaches at other programs.
The question is: How might this offer increase attendance at the Liberty Bowl, and is it beneficial for the program?
‘Win Together’
Memphis has introduced an innovative deal where purchasing a $60 ticket includes free admission to every home game until the team loses at home. Depending on how the Tigers start home play, this could be an extremely affordable purchase for fans.
This deal will be available until the start of the season, as the Tigers open their season against Bethune Cookman.
Is it worth it?
Fans that purchase this deal will likely be guaranteed, at worst, both the Bethune Cookman and Navy games. The Tigers should be the favorite against Navy, and a win would grant tickets to the Boise State game. Despite a potential loss to the Broncos, that scenario would have purchasers spend around 20 dollars on tickets.
However, it is worth noting that currently, Memphis has the fourth most home wins in the country since 2014.
If you believe the Tigers will have a successful season, I highly encourage purchasing this deal. However, if you’re currently skeptical maybe it’s best to wait and purchase single-game tickets as the season takes shape.
Memphis’ full home game schedule features: Bethune Cookman, Navy, Boise State, Tulane, USF, and SMU.
Smart for the program?
In my assessment, the athletic department’s move appears to be a well-calculated step, offering an enticing pricing option. For just $60, fans can potentially secure the chance to attend every Memphis home game throughout the entire season. The price is competitive and isn’t a deep enough investment to have people feel shorted if the Tigers lose early.
This deal will be beneficial in having the Tigers have more fans inside the Liberty Bowl. Fans that purchase this deal, will start the season with the team, and continuing to win will have them engaged and in their seats.
