Homecoming For Henigan

Between 2018 and 2020, Memphis QB Seth Henigan led Denton Ryan High School to a 39-2 record and a Class 5A State Championship. During this time, he amassed 7,234 passing yards and 79 passing touchdowns.

Henigan also grew up about ten minutes from DACTU Stadium. So, expect the local Friday night legend to have a large crew of family and friends in attendance this Saturday.

About North Texas

Biletnikoff Award Watch List receiver Ja’Mori Maclin leads the Mean Green’s air-raid offense. The nephew of former Philadelphia Eagles star Jeremy Maclin has collected 658 yards and nine TD catches through seven games.

Junior signal-caller Chandler Rogers has shown to be more than capable at the quarterback position. He’s thrown for 1,762 yards, 14 TDs, and only one interception, all while being a solid runner. The Mean Green’s 80.8 PFF passing grade is good for 19th in the nation.

Although North Texas’s offense is “dynamite,” there is a reason this is a four-loss team. The 80.6 defense grade ranks 64th in the nation. These defensive woes begin in the front seven, with the Mean Green defense amassing a measly ten sacks all season. Henigan should have a clean pocket to work with, and Blake Watson should have plenty of open-field opportunities to make big plays.

Coach Silverfield’s Thoughts

“Our focus turns to a great North Texas team. We know what they’re capable of… we’ve got to go back to work, and our focus is strictly on going down to Denton and going 1-0 this week.”

Although this North Texas team is not great, Silverfield is correct to treat them with respect. If the Tiger’s defense performs similarly to how they did in the first half of last week’s game against UAB, this game has the potential to get out of hand.

Score Prediction

Memphis 45, North Texas 35

In a high-scoring affair, both defenses disappoint. Blake Watson and the Tigers running game steals the show down the stretch, allowing the Tigers to run the clock at will.
