Austin Baskin Carries Memphis Baseball to Victory Over Tulane

Published

on

Memphis Baseball is BACK! The Tigers’ bats came alive in a dominant 14-2 victory over Tulane (14-38, 7-15 AAC). Last week, the Tigers’ offense struggled mightily against the Pirates’ premier pitching. East Carolina’s pitching staff rosters several MLB prospects, so the Tigers’ offensive woes were justified. To add to their offensive struggles, Memphis’ starting pitching failed to attain any sort of success, outside of P Dalton Fowler’s gem. Things looked to be back to normal for the Tigers in their dominant win on Thursday.

Recap from Yesterday’s Win

After getting swept by #14 East Carolina, the Tigers (27-25, 9-13 AAC) looked for revenge and a chance for better seeding in the AAC tournament next week. In the top of the first, Tulane looked to be in good shape, scoring an early two runs off of the Tigers’ starting P Glenn Green III (5-0, 4.50 ERA). Memphis answered immediately in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs off of Austin Baskin’s double.

The Tigers piled on five more runs in the bottom of the second inning off of Tulane starting P Dylan Carmouche (3-8). Carmouche only lasted 1.2 innings after Anthony Hansen’s RBI single, Austin Baskin’s two-run double and Will Spears’ two-run single. A five-run second inning propelled the Tigers to an easy win over Tulane. Memphis continued to pile on the runs, scoring four more runs in the bottom of the third and three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Three massive innings from the Tigers helped them secure an easy 14-2 victory.

Player of the Game

The player of the game belongs to 3B Austin Baskin. Baskin drove in EIGHT runs! Yes, eight runs. He put on a fantastic display of offense, going 4-4 with three doubles. Tulane had no answer for Baskin or the rest of the Tigers’ lineup in Thursday’s dominant win.

Looking Ahead to Friday’s Game

Memphis Baseball looks to establish some momentum going into the AAC tournament. Additionally, it’s Senior Weekend for the Tigers, who will try to make a couple of statement wins to further cement the legacies of their senior class.
