Memphis Baseball Drops Game Two Against Tulane

On Thursday, the Tigers came out hot against Tulane’s starting pitching, ending an offensive slump. Would this carry over to Friday’s game?

Recap of Friday’s Game

On Friday, Memphis Baseball looked to start a winning streak as they took on Tulane in game two of the weekend series. Tulane started the game hot on offense, after a solo bomb from CF Teo Banks. DH Logan Kohler answered for the Tigers in the bottom of the first. The game went back and forth in the first half of the game. Tulane scored two in the top of the third, and Memphis answered by scoring two in the bottom of the fourth on a 2-run triple from LF Anthony Hansen.

The game was tied up 3-3 heading into the top of the fifth before a 2-run shot from CF Teo Banks helped the Green Wave score three. Memphis C Jonah Sutton hit a moonshot to in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to two runs. However, Tulane went on to score five more runs off of a grand slam from 1B Brandon Morrow. The Tigers lost 11-5.

Player of the Game

Despite the loss, Memphis DH Logan Kohler went 3-3 with a solo HR and a double. This year, Kohler is hitting a superb .326 BA with 10 HRs. Throughout this season, he and 3B Austin Baskin have been two of the Tigers’ most consistent bats.

Looking Ahead to Saturday’s Game

Memphis Baseball (27-26, 9-14 AAC) looks to build some momentum against Tulane (15-38, 8-15 AAC) heading into the American Athletic Conference Tournament next week. For those that can’t make the game, tune into ESPN+ at 1 P.M. central time. This will be the Tigers’ final regular season game of the year.
