Bats Come Alive as Memphis Baseball Dominates Tulane in Big Win

Published

on

On Saturday, Memphis Baseball played its final regular season game of the year against Tulane. After giving up 11 runs on Friday, the Tigers’ pitching staff looked to establish some momentum and confidence going into the American Athletic Conference Tournament next week. Behind a strong pitching performance and a resurgent offense, Memphis beat Tulane 12-2 in seven innings.

Recap of Saturday’s Big Win for the Tigers

The bats came alive, and they came alive early for the Tigers. In the bottom of the first, the Tigers plated three runs on two bases-loaded walks and a wild pitch from Tulane P Colin Reilly. Reilly struggled to find the zone, lasting only 0.2 innings and throwing a whopping 48 pitches. The Tigers plated five more runs in the bottom of the second inning in large part to a two-run double from 1B Shane Cox.

Memphis scored four more runs and comfortably won the game by a score of 12-2. Memphis’ Shane Cox was electric in today’s win, going 3-3 with five RBIs. Each player in the lineup saw the ball insanely well today, recording 15 walks throughout the game.

Player of the Game

Today’s player of the game belongs to Memphis P JT Durham (4-3, 6.23 ERA). He took the mound for the Tigers on Saturday in the rubber match of their weekend series against Tulane. He looked fantastic on the mound today for the Tigers, giving up only two earned runs in six innings pitched. Also, Durham struck out seven batters while only walking one.

His performance may be the spark that the Tigers’ pitching staff needs. There’s no doubt that one of Memphis’ primary weaknesses has been its pitching staff. Seeing a teammate go out there and dominate the way that Durham did is exactly what the Tigers needed. If the Tigers’ pitching staff gets hot, watch out.

What’s Next for the Tigers?

Next week, Memphis will play in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. If they win the conference tournament, Memphis Baseball will be headed to the NCAA tournament. Based on the potential of this team, it’s not far-fetched to say that the Tigers have a good shot at winning the conference tournament.
