Last weekend, Memphis G Kendric Davis performed at the 2023 NBA G League Elite Camp. During the camp, scouts performed a variety of tests on prospects. The anthropometry testing is just one group of the various tests, yet it holds significant weight on the draft stock of NBA prospects. Davis underwent anthropometry and strength/agility testing this past weekend, while most prospects underwent similar testing on Monday, day one of the 2023 NBA Draft Combine. So how did Memphis G Kendric Davis perform in these important tests?
What is the NBA’s Anthropometry Testing?
During anthropometry testing, athletes undergo various tests to determine some of their innate physical traits. These traits include body fat, hand dimensions-length, hand dimensions-width, weight, height w/o shoes, standing reach, and wingspan. Wingspan and height are often the most heavily scrutinized measurements, as they aid scouts in determining a prospect’s projectability on offense and defense.
How Did Kendric Perform in Anthropometry Testing?
Kendric Davis recorded a 6.7 percent body fat, an 8.00-inch hand dimension-length, an 8.50-inch hand dimension-width, and weighed in at 181.2 pounds. As for his wingspan, Davis measured in at 6 feet 1 inch. Davis measured 7 feet 8.5 inches for standing reach and 5 feet 10.25 inches for his height w/o shoes.
What is the NBA’s Strength/Agility testing?
During strength/agility testing, NBA prospects undergo several drills that NBA scouts use to determine the overall athleticism of the athletes. These events include the Lane Shuffle Left, Lane Shuffle Right, 3/4 Court Sprint, Pro Lane, Max Vertical Jump, and standing vertical. These events help determine the overall quickness and jumping ability, which are obviously critical to a player’s ability to play effective offense and defense.
How Did Kendric Perform in Strength/Agility Testing?
Davis performed exceptionally well in the agility portion of the testing. He posted 3.149 seconds in the Lane Shuffle Left, 3.231 seconds in the Lane Shuffle Right, and 3.17 seconds in the 3/4 Court Sprint. Each of these times finished near the top of the standings at the conclusion of the event. Additionally, he posted a 28.0-inch standing vertical and a 32.5-inch max vertical jump, which ranks about average amongst the other prospects for his position.
