Memphis Big Jordan Brown Arrives on Campus

Published

on

Memphis center Jordan Brown has arrived on campus and started practicing with the team, sources confirm to Tiger Blueprint.

Brown, who committed to Memphis on June 27, is the third Tiger to start practice this week. Point guard Jahvon Quinerly arrived on Monday night. And wing Jaykwon Walton committed to Memphis and subsequently made it to campus on Thursday morning.

All three will join Memphis on its trip to the Dominican Republic from Aug. 1-7.

Rumors of Brown’s potential eligibility issues swirled in recent weeks after his commitment to the Tigers. His arrival on campus today, however, appears to put those rumors to bed. Brown will likely be eligible on opening night for Memphis this season.

Other News for Memphis

UCF transfer Jayhlon Young, St. John’s transfer David Jones and 4-star recruit Mikey Williams are now the three remaining Memphis signees that haven’t joined the team. Young and Jones are each finalizing academic situations, and both will likely arrive sooner rather than later.

Mikey Williams

Mikey Williams, on the other hand, is still dealing with six gun-related felony charges. These charges stem from an incident at his (San Diego, Calif.) home in late March that saw him allegedly shoot at a moving car filled with five people—including three minors—as it was driving away the house. His preliminary court hearing for these charges has been postponed twice, first from June 29 to July 12 and then from July 12 to Sep. 5.

It’s unclear if Mikey Williams will ever make it to campus, but he is currently in the city of Memphis. He posed for an Instagram photo with a U16 women’s basketball team at the Memphis Sports and Events Center. The team’s account posted the photo earlier today. Mikey Williams hopes to join the Tigers in the near future, but hasn’t been cleared to do so as of now, per sources.

DeAndre Williams

All-AAC forward DeAndre Williams’ future is also up in the air. The 26-year-old senior, who turns 27 in October, is currently awaiting the NCAA’s decision on his waiver for an additional year of eligibility. His attorney, Don Jackson, reportedly submitted all required documents for the waiver to Memphis’ compliance department last week.

There is growing optimism within Memphis’ program that the NCAA will declare DeAndre Williams eligible, per sources.

Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway confirmed as such during a session with the media on Thursday.

“I’m definitely optimistic about it happening because of the case [DeAndre Williams] has and looking at other similar cases around the country that have been given a waiver,” Hardaway said. “So, I’m just hoping that [trend] stays true.”
