In anticipation of what could be a significant season, Ryan Silverfield and his staff recently celebrated a successful signing day. Crucially, Memphis secured commitments from 20 transfers from the portal, addressing key positions. While the staff also signed 14 high school seniors, this article will focus particularly on the standout additions from the portal.

Key Additions:

Mario Anderson (RB):

Mario Anderson initiated his college journey at the Division II level, earning the prestigious title of first-team All-American in 2022. Notably, he stands as the third all-time leading rusher at Newberry College. After a successful four-year stint in D2, Anderson made the transition to South Carolina.

In his lone season with the Gamecocks, Anderson showcased his abilities by amassing 707 rushing yards and scoring 3 touchdowns.

Jaidyn Denis (CB):

In a significant move, Jaidyn Denis, a transfer from Elon, committed to Memphis for his senior season. Just a few days ago, he was previously committed to Western Michigan.

Denis arrives in Memphis following a strong junior year, showcasing impressive stats with 19 solo tackles, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

Javante Mackey (DB):

Following an impressive true freshman year with Arkansas State, the Whitehaven HS defensive back is making his way back to Memphis.

Noteworthy, Mackey totaled 52 solo tackles during his freshman season with the Red Wolves.

Trent Holler (OL):

Memphis gains size and experience with the addition of Trent Holler, a 6’2, 311-pound offensive lineman.

Holler has appeared in 23 games in his two past seasons with Marshall. Beginning his career at East Carolina, Holler will be a graduate transfer.

Patrick Lucas Jr. (DL):

Starting with a redshirt season at Ole Miss, Lucas Jr. later transferred to the Hoosiers due to limited playing time.

In his last two seasons at Indiana, he recorded 8 solo tackles each year, accumulating a total of 31 tackles. A 3-star recruit in high school, Lucas Jr. garnered interest from numerous Power 5 programs.

Overall

Heading into the 2024 season, Memphis is building a robust transfer portal class.  Currently, they stand at second in the AAC 247 Sports team rankings and hold the #16 overall position on Rivals.
