Memphis Tigers Summer League Performances

Published

on

In the 2023 NBA Summer League, numerous former Tigers have been showcasing their skills on various rosters.

Held in Las Vegas, the NBA Summer League primarily highlights rookies, other young stars and G-League affiliate players. I will provide recaps of their performances thus far and continue to update the articles as more games are played.

Kendric Davis and Lester Quinones

This year’s Warriors Summer League roster includes two former Tigers, Kendric Davis and Lester Quinones. Quinones, who is in his second year with the Warriors, was named the G-League’s Most Improved Player last season. On the other hand, Davis, despite going undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft, is eager to seize this opportunity and make an impression on scouts and coaches.

Davis had a challenging start in the California Classic, shooting just 1-7 from the field. However, he bounced back in the subsequent two games, totaling 29 points. In the matchup against the Lakers, Davis showcased his exceptional passing skills, accumulating 8 assists.

Unfortunately, his performance last night was subpar, scoring only 5 points and providing 1 assist.

Quinones is displaying a level of play that indicates he is ready for an NBA roster. In his initial game, he led the team with an impressive 26 points, including 5 three-pointers.

He carried his strong momentum into the second game, scoring 21 points and making 5 more three-pointers.

Last night, Quinones erupted once again, delivering another 26-point performance. Overall, Quinones has been shooting the ball exceptionally well and has exhibited improved athleticism and shot creation abilities.

Jalen Duren and James Wiseman

Another Tiger duo in the NBA Summer League this year comes from Detroit in Jalen Duren and James Wiseman. These big men were instrumental in shaping two different No. 1 recruiting classes during their tenure at the University of Memphis.

Wiseman is coming into this year’s Summer League with something to prove after his Warriors stint finally fizzled. In his initial two games, Wiseman recorded a double-double in each, showcasing his potential.

Given his extended absence from playing, it seems Wiseman is still in the process of developing as a player.

Duren, in his second year with the Pistons, is building upon a successful rookie season.

He has carried his momentum into the Summer League, recording two double-doubles already. Known for his rebounding, defense and emphatic dunks, Duren has also displayed growth in his game by becoming more confident with his jump shots.

Josh Minott

Josh Minott, a second-year player, split his time last year between the Timberwolves and their G League affiliate.

In this Summer League, Minott has only participated in one game, but he delivered an impressive performance. With his high motor and effort, he scored 20 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, showcasing his abilities on the court. Minott will play in his second game Monday night on ESPNU against the Jazz at 9 p.m.
