About The Midshipmen

First-year offensive coordinator Grant Chestnut is trying to change the stigma around the Navy offense. After being a triple-option offense for 15 years under former head coach Ken Niumatalolo, Chestnut is working towards making this offense “explosive.” That starts with the passing game. Navy has notoriously not passed the ball in their trademarked triple option, wing-T, cave-man style of football. Over a two-game span this year, Navy has passed the ball a grand total of 25 times. This may not seem like a lot, but when looking back to previous Midshipmen offenses, this is a major jump in volume.

Navy’s season thus far has consisted of a week zero 42-3 blowout loss to an excellent Notre Dame team. They parlayed that with a 24-0 shutout win against a very poor Wagner team. I am very pessimistic when it comes to this Navy team as they’re facing large amounts of turnover from seasons past. They need more time to learn a new offense and get things rolling under new head coach Brian Newberry.

Game Prediction

Memphis 42, Navy 14

Memphis should dominate this game in every facet. Expect solid showings from the three different Memphis RB’s. Henigan won’t have unreal numbers, but he should be consistent, with minimal incompletions and turnovers. There is real value in these betting odds. If you are looking to make some extra cash for the weekend, look no further than Memphis -14.5 and over 46.5.

Coach Silverfield’s Thoughts

“Let’s put this city on display. It’s a great night to showcase everything we have. A great night to showcase our football program, our stadium, our city.”

Silverfield is correct. A nationally televised, primetime game is an unbelievable chance to demonstrate what Memphis football is all about.
