Quindell Johnson Aims to Stick with LA Rams

Quindell Johnson, a 4-year starter at safety for the Tigers, aims to make his mark for the Los Angeles Rams.

Johnson recorded 261 tackles and 10 interceptions in his time in Memphis. During his senior year, he boasted a team-best “when targeted” pass coverage grade of 49.2 on Pro Football Focus.

In my analysis, he graded out as a late fourth-round talent and the seventh-best safety in the class. In March, I wrote about Johnson, saying “he has quickly become one of my favorite underrated players in the class. He’s not an elite athlete and doesn’t have jaw-dropping measurables, but he always manages to get the job done. He’s a fluid mover with great instincts, a solid feel for coverage, strong hands, and he’s not afraid of contact.”

Despite the talent, Johnson fell under the radar and went undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft. He signed with the Los Angeles Rams soon after.

“It probably was the best thing for me not to get drafted. It’s all going to work out in itself, it’s all going to come full circle,” Johnson said in a May 1 interview with Avery Braxton of ABC 24 in Memphis.

Not only did this seemingly light a fire under Johnson, but it also gave him a chance to sign where he had the best opportunity. Expect Johnson to profit from the lack of defensive back talent on this rebuilding Rams team. Not only do I see him making the roster, but I also see him making an immediate impact in a nickel corner/box safety role while showcasing his playmaking abilities.

As Johnson begins his NFL journey, all signs point to a promising future for the former Memphis star.
