On Saturday night, Memphis football dominated Bethune-Cookman by a score of 56-14. It wasn’t close at all. The defense for Memphis shined, while the offense looked explosive. Let’s take more of a look into what transpired on the field tonight.
Recap
Memphis QB Seth Henigan started the game with a quick drive down the field and immediately got on the board, as Memphis RB Blake Watson ran it in for the easy 2-yard score. Henigan finished with 334 yards passing with two touchdowns. He threw two interceptions early in the game, with one being returned for a touchdown to make it a 10-7 game.
However, Memphis never looked back after Bethune-Cookman brought it to within three points. They were up at the half 28-7 on three rushing touchdowns from Watson. The defense from Memphis only allowed 24 yards in the first half. Memphis opened up the second half with four straight touchdown drives to make it a 56-7 game. The Tigers ended up winning 56-14.
Attendance
There was an announced attendance of 26,632, which is pretty solid for Memphis given their opponent. Memphis fans typically show up in large amounts for big games, and this wasn’t one of those games. I was impressed with the student section. It was loud and there were a good amount of students. This is the worst opponent for Memphis this season, so I expect this to end up as the lowest-attended game of the season.
Up Next
Memphis is back in action on the road next week against Arkansas State at 6 PM. Arkansas State was embarrassed today on the road at Oklahoma, losing 73-0. I expect Memphis to win big again and start to establish some momentum.
