Recap of the Game
HC Kerrick Jackson decided to rock with redshirt freshman P Luke Ellis in round one of the AAC Baseball Tournament against the Shockers. Ellis had pitched well all season and was recently named to the freshmen team all-AAC on Monday. Ellis continued his consistent play on the mound on Tuesday, tossing four innings while only allowing three earned runs.
The Shockers began the game scoring first as a single from DH Payton Tolle allowed OF Chuck Ingram to score for Wichita State in the bottom of the first inning. In the top of the second inning, the Tigers scored three runs off of a moonshot from Anthony Hansen, a Brennan Dubose triple and an error from the Shockers. In the top of the third inning, Memphis Baseball continued their stellar offensive performance plating two more runs off of an error from Wichita State. The Shockers responded with one run off of a fielder’s choice to narrow the Tigers’ lead to 5-2.
In the top of the fourth, Logan Kohler launched a solo home run down the right-field line to increase the Tigers’ lead to 6-2. In the bottom of the fourth, the Shockers responded with two runs off of a Rodden double to left-center-field to cut the Tigers’ lead down to 6-4. Memphis continued its offensive onslaught scoring two more runs in the top of the seventh and two more runs in the top of the eighth to increase the Tigers’ lead to 10-5. Dalton Kendrick came into the bottom of the ninth and slammed the door shut on the Shockers.
Player of the Game
The Player of the Game belongs to P David Warren. He came in as a relief pitcher for the Tigers and shut down the Shockers, allowing only four hits and one earned run. His stuff looked nasty against the Shocker hitters, effectively earning him the Player of the Game award.
