Entering his fifth season, Lucas Jr. brings a 6’3, 315-pound presence to the Tigers’ defensive line, contributing size and experience.

Beginning with a redshirt season at Ole Miss, Lucas Jr. would later transfer to the Hoosiers due to limited playing time. In his last two seasons at Indiana, he recorded 8 solo tackles each year, along with 31 total tackles.

In high school, Lucas Jr. was a 3-star recruit, garnering interest from numerous Power 5 programs.

Commodore Cole

Announcing his commitment to Memphis, the 6’3, 310-pound sophomore comes in with a successful JUCO season under his belt. In his freshman season, Cole was named to First Team All-MACCC. Subsequently, Cole had six sacks in eight games last season for the Bulldogs.

Following his entry into the transfer portal, Cole drew interest from various AAC schools, including Florida Atlantic and Charlotte.

Overall

The defensive line is a key area in which Memphis Football most improve to be a top the AAC next season. Allowing an average of 169.5 yards per game last season, the Tigers faced challenges in containing opponents’ run games.

With the additions of Lucas Jr. and Cole, Memphis is adding new big bodies that should compete for spots this off season. Despite these additions, Silverfield and his staff continue to extend offers for the defensive line, gradually shaping the depth chart for the upcoming season.

As of now, Memphis holds the #31 spot in Rivals’ transfer portal rankings and stands at second place within the American Athletic Conference.
