This offseason, Memphis’ coaching staff has placed significant emphasis on enhancing the defensive line.
Today, the team received positive news with the commitment of Patrick Lucas Jr., a transfer from Indiana. Notably, Lucas Jr. started his career at Ole Miss. The staff also picked up a junior college transfer, Commodore Cole, from Holmes College.
Patrick Lucas Jr.
Entering his fifth season, Lucas Jr. brings a 6’3, 315-pound presence to the Tigers’ defensive line, contributing size and experience.
Beginning with a redshirt season at Ole Miss, Lucas Jr. would later transfer to the Hoosiers due to limited playing time. In his last two seasons at Indiana, he recorded 8 solo tackles each year, along with 31 total tackles.
In high school, Lucas Jr. was a 3-star recruit, garnering interest from numerous Power 5 programs.
Commodore Cole
Announcing his commitment to Memphis, the 6’3, 310-pound sophomore comes in with a successful JUCO season under his belt. In his freshman season, Cole was named to First Team All-MACCC. Subsequently, Cole had six sacks in eight games last season for the Bulldogs.
Following his entry into the transfer portal, Cole drew interest from various AAC schools, including Florida Atlantic and Charlotte.
